2021 Trending Flooring Features

With the close of 2020, two uncommon themes have unfolded: Ease and Ethics.

·         Ease – lifestyles have changed: home offices are the new ‘in thing,’ and if you’re home a lot, maintenance has new significance

·         Ethics – this can be two fold:

o    Recycling… It’s a familiar term, it’s everywhere, and more and more products are coming up in grocery store aisles as ‘eco-friendly,’ natural, plastic free, aluminum free, no parabens, alternatives

o    Home-made.. Made in America, made in the USA – What more can you say?

o

We all want things to be effortless, but also done with integrity. Not only do we care about how things are being made, but we are caring more where things come from.

Green or Eco-Friendly Flooring:

Carpet has been at the leading edge of this eco-friendly development. For instance, Mohawk’s Forever Clean SmartStrand “is made in part with annually renewable, plant-based materials. This minimizes the usage of our earth’s limited natural resources and reduces energy consumption in the manufacturing process.”

Carpet is not the only type of flooring product that has taken the eco-friendly pursuit as a very important turning point, but it is happening with many other types of flooring as well. Not only do you see this in recycled hardwood or reclaimed hardwood flooring, which continues to be a hot trend; but other hard surfaces are using natural and recycled materials in their production process.

Although not as popular as in the previous years, bamboo and cork are natural and renewable resources that are perfect alternatives to hardwood or even vinyl flooring.

No matter what generation we come from, we all care about where our products come from, how it impacts our environment, and our society today… as well as for the future of our children and our grandchildren.

Waterproof Flooring

Home offices are the new trend… and with home offices for many also come home childcare or virtual learning. Because of this, waterproof flooring is in high demand. No one wants to worry about spills when they are in the middle of a Zoom office meeting.

People are busier these days than we have ever been, and today’s technology has made our life much simpler:

  • Waterproof vinyl flooring comes with new cores to help with water spills:
    • WPC (Wood Plastic Composite) and SPC (Stone Plastic Composite cores provide durability and water resistance unlike the vinyl of old
  • Waterproof laminate flooring vs the standard laminate: laminate of old used to warp and bubble from so much moisture. However, today’s waterproof laminate is new and still improving
  •

The comfort to know that a product can resist the water damage can make your day at the office like a day at the ocean! Well, almost!

Made in the Good Ol’ US of A!

There is a sense of American made pride that is growing, and American-made products are becoming in high demand. Having manufacturing back in the United States not only helps our economy, but helps our employment. This also makes availability of products much easier to get, and believe it or not, costs for these products have either remained the same or lowered since bringing manufacturing back to the states.

We’ve noticed a huge trend of people that are choosing American-made flooring because they like knowing that their money is going back into the U.S. economy. Lots of American manufactured products are also made sustainably, which is appealing to people who want eco-friendly flooring.

Domestic manufacturing also allows for a faster turnaround with new products. That means American-made flooring is constantly innovating to offer you the latest trends and the most cutting-edge flooring technology.

Finding a flooring product that fits your family’s style should be your number one quest when inquiring about new flooring for your home!
