With hardwood being very much in style, you begin to think that your current hardwood floors are looking a little dreary and dull these days. However, you don't necessarily want to replace them as they are in great condition. They just need a little freshening up. Perhaps you want to give your floors a more traditional style, choosing a warm brown stain, or maybe modernize them a bit with a soft gray. Regardless of the stain color, you know that refinishing can be not only a tedious task, but the smell of the stains can definitely turn you off.

Many floor finishes rely heavily on volitile solvents, which can cause eye, skin, or nose and throat irritation, headaches, even nausea. Rubio Monocoat, a floor finishing product line, offers VOC free, environmentally friendly finishes to refinish your floors. VOCs, or Volitile Organic Compounds, are gasses emitted from certain solids or liquids. VOCs are widely used in many househould products for cleaning, disinfecting, as well as aerosol products, solvents, paints and varnishes, just to name a few. Rubio Monocoat's Oil Plus does not contain water and is made primarily of natural products. It is listed as a non-hazardous substance, is non-toxic and a highly sustainable finish. Plus, it's a designer's dream with 48 colors and a variety of stains and pretreatments.

Knowing what type of product you want to use to refinish your floors is the first step. The second step is deciding if you want to do it yourself or not. This project can take a lot of time and requires a lot of elbow grease and patience. If you're not up to the task, seek a professional hardwood floor sand and finishing company to do it for you. Since many companies may tell you they're experienced, check their credentials and certifications. You want your floors to be a work of art, not an art reproduction.
